Anticipated Releases of Spring 2022

As Winter draws to a close and Spring approaches, let's take a look at all the upcoming projects in film, tv and books to look forward to.

Film

So far, 2022 has been an outstanding year for films, with releases such as The Batman and Cyrano. Looking at these new releases, it seems that the bar is continuously being raised.

1. Morbius - March 31

On March 31, Morbius will be the latest addition to Sony’s universe of Marvel characters, or what fans call the ‘Venom-verse’. The story tells the tale of a scientist who mistakenly turns himself into a vampire, whilst trying to cure himself of a rare blood disease. This movie has been anticipated by Marvel fans all around as, although not giving away too much, the trailer hints at a a crossover between Sony’s Marvel universe (which include the original Spider-Man trilogy, The Amazing Spider-Man and the Venom franchise) and the MCU (which include The Avengers and most recently, Spider-Man: No Way Home). It shows Morbius conversing with Adrian Toomes, The Vulture, (played by Michael Keaton) who is also featured in the MCU’s Spider-Man, hinting that we may see a crossover between Tom Holland's Spider Man into the ‘Venom-verse’, which after No Way Home, wouldn't come as too much of a shock.

2. The Lost City - April 15

Starting off strong, The Lost City starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum is set to be released on April 15. The Lost City is an action comedy about a romance novelist who gets kidnapped whilst on a book tour with her cover model. She’s kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire who hopes that she’ll lead him to the treasure in the ancient lost city from her novel, and she is swept into a world she believed to be fictional, whilst her covel model tries to rescue her.

3. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore - April 8

The third chapter of the Fantastic Beasts series will air on April 8, picking up from where it left off in the Crimes of Grindelwald, starring Eddie Redmayne reprising his role as Newt Scamander in his pursuit against evil. The Fantastic Beasts franchise acts as a prequel to the Harry Potter Franchise and explores the history of characters that Harry Potter fans know all too well, such as Professor Albus Dumbledore, who is the main focus of this movie, where we see Jude Law act as young Dumbledore.

4. Doctor Strange the Multiverse of Madness - May 5

After entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016, Dr Strange will be back on May 5 for his second solo movie, directed by Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man trilogy. This film brings many fan favourite characters back to the big screen, specifically Wanda, played by Elizabeth Olsen. It also introduces new characters such as America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez. This film aims to continue to explore the multiverse following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and is expected to take the MCU into a whole other direction.

5. Legally blonde 3 - May 20

19 years after its sequel, Reese Witherspoon is back with legally blonde 3 on May 20. Legally Blonde is a staple movie of the 2000s and is loved by many, so it is no surprise that the third movie is highly anticipated. Although the plot for the movie has not yet been announced, the writing team includes Mindy Kaling (star and writer of The Office, and the hit teen show Never Have I Ever)  and Dan Goor (The Co-creator of the Sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine) , so we can expect this movie to be a comedic masterpiece.
