PRECIOUS ADESINA REPORTS ON FURTHER EVENTS IN THE UCL RENT STRIKE

Residents of Campbell House West scorn in disgust that months of protest against noisy construction and threats of expulsion are attempted to be resolved with a complementary barbecue for all those living in Campbell House.

UCL Estates emailed one of the residents to offer this barbecue on behalf of the construction company “as a gesture of goodwill”. The barbecue is provisionally scheduled for the evening of Wednesday 24th July. However,  many residents feel this is an unsatisfactory conclusion to a very long and heated debate.

David Dahlborn, UCLU’s halls and accommodation representative, has told Pi that he strongly believes “certain sections of the management have lost the plot completely and this is, to put it lightly, an insult to every student at UCL”.

Some residents believe that more needs to be done to compensate for the unbearable disruption during the exam period. Construction work measuring up to 90 decibels started as early as 8am. The barbecue is not enough. The rent strike continues.
