PRECIOUS ADESINA REPORTS ON PHILANTHROPY MONTH AT UCL

Have you been wondering why there has been a sudden increase in the number of Jeremy Benthams attending UCL? No longer does he watch us from his shiny glass-fronted cabinet in the South Cloisters, but he now serves us tea at Aspretto and goes out to lunch with his friends when he’s not banging out a 3000 word essay on the importance of utilitarianism.

As part of Philanthropy Month, UCL will be attempting to have a record number of people wearing the Jeremy Bentham facemasks in one place on campus on Tuesday 24th February. The event will be kicking off in the South Cloisters from 11am with the record attempt happening at 1.15pm. The masks can be picked up from the Union building. Rumours are circulating that even old Jeremy may be taken out of his box for the occasion…

UCL’s Philanthropy month is to celebrate those who support the University, be that through financial support or simply donating some of their valuable time. UCL was established through philanthropy and today donations from individuals continue to support academic programmes, scholarships and the UCL estate.

People who cannot attend the event can still participate by tweeting snaps of them wearing the facemask of UCL’s “spiritual father” to @UCLAlumni, with the hashtag #Benthamselfie.
