UCL Backpackers: Gulnara
This week, Jessie Lim and Ellie Sykes chatted to Gulnara, a Russian student on the UPCH programme (Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate for the Humanities) – a one-year foundation course in the humanities:
WHERE DID YOU GO TRAVELLING OVER SUMMER?
“I went for a month-long trip to France, travelling around the north-west regions from Brittany to Normandy, then to Hossegor in south-west France. It was just a holiday with friends and relatives.”
WHAT WAS THE BEST PART OF YOUR TRIP?
“Surfing in Hossegor! I would recommend this place to everybody who likes surfing, as it’s very good for beginners – the waves aren’t too tame and there’s always good surfing. Also, the weather’s not too hot!”
WHERE’S THE BEST PLACE YOU’VE BEEN SURFING?
“In Europe, it’d be Hossegor. All over the world? St Barthélemy, a Caribbean island.”
WHAT’S YOUR TRAVELLING ESSENTIAL?
“For me, it’s just a good mood and to be happy wherever you go.”
HAVE YOU EVER GOT INTO A STICKY SITUATION WHILE TRAVELLING?
“Once, I lost my suitcase and had to get by without all my stuff for four days. It was quite embarrassing because I was on holiday but couldn’t feel comfortable because I didn’t have any of my basics.“
WHERE’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO VISIT?
“It’s a difficult question to answer. Every place is unique!”
