Best Study Spots Around UCL
As time goes by and the workload increases, finding the ideal place for condensed studying is essential. Here are a few of my favorite places on campus to be the most productive. Personally, I always concentrate best in a library, so as a fair warning: most of my recommendations are quiet spaces, since effective studying only happens when there are minimum distractions!
1. Main Library
If you are a UCL student and you have never studied in the main library, let me tell you that you’re missing out. In my opinion, it’s the best place to study at UCL since it never gets boring due to its numerous different sections. My favorite section is the Dutch section, located at the back of the second floor. It is really private and peaceful, with big windows that fill you with Vitamin D.
2. Senate House Library
Senate House library belongs to the University of London, which means that all UCL students can have access to it. In addition to it being helpful for secondary research, the study area is also designed for solitary study. It feels like a trip back in time where concentration on studying will definitely be heightened
3. Common Rooms in your department
Many students are not aware that every department owns its common room. My department is SELCS, and its common room feels like home. Every time I have a break from my classes, and I want a chill and casual place to study, the common room of SELCS is the right idea. Its cozy environment full of sofas and comfortable chairs helps you finish less intense assignments in a less stressful environment, full of productive people
4. Wellcome Library
Wellcome Library is a free museum and library in central London connecting science, medicine, life, and art. The library is located on the second floor and offers a serene and quiet ambiance as well as plenty of workspaces for solitary study and research. Once in a while, and when I need a change of scenery, Wellcome Library is always the right idea.
Studying in the library can reduce distractions and productivity and make you feel more concentrated. I hope these suggestions help you achieve a more focused study session because for me if the Dutch section of the Main library did not exist, I would have failed most of my coursework.
