UCL Student Rep Elections: What’s Next?

On the 16th of October, some of UCL’s most ambitious students put themselves forward for election in what will decide the voices of the next academic year. The student representatives play a vital role in ensuring the concerns of students are listened to throughout the academic calendar, speaking on behalf of their coursemates, hall mates, their department faculty and more.
Those elected to represent their peers will be working hard to pass on queries, ideas and valuable information through regular meetings with academic staff - taking the opportunity to make important changes and developments in UCL departments.
Official voting for 2023/24’s student representatives closes at 12:00PM on Friday 27th October, which means it isn’t long before students find out who will be their point of call for their academic issues this year. The academic reps being elected on Friday are as following:
· Course Representatives, who will advocate for students on a taught programme of study, presenting concerns and feedback to the department and communicating with students to negotiate changes to learning experiences in their course and across UCL.
· Research Student Representatives, who will represent the voices and ideas of Postgraduate Research Students in meetings with staff.
· Lead Department Representatives, who will play a key role in the development and enhancement of their programmes, acting as a point of contact for students, staff and the Student Union.
· Faculty Representatives, who will proactively seek out the thoughts and opinions of students, as well as work with the Union to examine Student Staff Consultative Committee feedback and spot trends within their faculty.
How to vote:
With not long left to send votes in, the time is now for UCL students to make their voices heard and choose their most suitable candidates to represent the issues important to their academic lives. By voting for an academic representative, UCL students will embrace their opportunity to have their voices heard and have even more say in their education and its future - so it’s time to get voting!
