The Christmas season at UCL is now in full swing after the Festive Lights switch on, which took place on Monday evening. Students and guests gathered in the Quad to countdown the Christmas tree lights being switched on. The queue on Gower street reached Mully’s, as everyone came to join in the festivities.

The occasion was accompanied with stalls selling mulled wine and hot chocolate,as well as seasonal treats such as gingerbread men and mince pies. The Student Union’s Live Music Society played iconic Christmas songs and carols for everyone on top of the Portico, adding to the cheery buzz.

Aimie Chapple, Vice President (Operations) and host of the evening’s festivities, said that “even in the rain the positive atmosphere was contagious and hopefully people felt the joy of the season !".

It was also the first year of UCL’s Festive Bauble Design Competition. The winning bauble, designed by Alice Cane – Philanthropy Writer for the Office of the Vice-President, featured a drawing of the iconic Portico building. The bauble is being displayed throughout December on the tree and can even be purchased on campus.

The evening was a lovely display of the community spirit at UCL and full of Christmas cheer.
